Conference Introduction

Gel materials consist of a 3D network and fluid phase, featuring structural support, mass transfer, stimulus response and functional loading capabilities. As an important soft material platform, they connect fundamental research with engineering applications. By adjusting compositions, crosslinking structures and functional components, gels can be developed into hydrogels, organogels, ionogels, oleogels and aerogels, which are widely applied in biomedical engineering, new energy, environmental protection, flexible electronics, intelligent sensing and advanced manufacturing. Driven by the innovation of new materials and the Dual Carbon strategy, gel materials are rapidly moving toward engineering and industrialization. Solving fundamental scientific problems and breaking technical bottlenecks have become key to the high-quality development of the industry. Building on four previous sessions, the 5th Academic and Industrial Forum on Advanced Gel Materials will be held in Suzhou from October 21 to 22, 2026. With the theme Innovation-driven Development & Industrial Integration, the forum builds a cooperation platform for government, industry, academia, research institutions, end-users and investors. It focuses on core technologies and practical applications of gel materials, facilitates cross-field exchanges, and supports young researchers to jointly foster a sound innovation ecosystem.

Dr. Hao Bai is currently a professor at the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Zhejiang University. He received his B.S. degree from Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University (2006), and his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2012). He joined Zhejiang University in 2015, after completed his postdoctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His main research interests are focused on bioinspired engineering of smart materials and systems with multiscale architecture and multifunctionality, including biomimetic cellular materials, composites, multifunctional polymer, fibers, surface wetting, tissue engineering, etc.

Wang Shihua, born in April 1968, Doctor of Engineering, researcher level senior engineer, is the chairman of Jiangsu Aoshen Hi-Tech Materials Co. He is employed as an industrial professor and external tutor in Donghua University and other universities. He was awarded the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2016.
He is mainly engaged in the R&D and production of high-performance polyimide fiber and its products.
